The Washington Football team needs a quarterback. With Matthew Stafford gone they have to do the aggressive and add Deshaun Watson.
If you’re wondering if the Washington Football Team knows that Alex Smith’s NFL career is coming to an end, you’ve come to the right place on Saturday night.
The trade of Matthew Stafford of Detroit to the Los Angeles Rams for two future round one picks, one round third pick and a possible replacement for Jared Goff proves everyone is available for trade. It will all have to do with pricing when you get into the brass tax.
Washington has known this since trying to enter the Stafford sweepstakes.
According to multiple reports, the soccer team was on the verge of winning the entire deal among the eight teams that put up an offer. Unfortunately, the price wasn’t the same as in Los Angeles.
Washington will now turn to the draft for this April. The team has eight picks and plenty of room to either move up several spots or add a new quarterback. With a win-now defense that isn’t lacking much and the money to add multiple names in the free agency, Washington could control the NFC East for years to come.
You need a quarterback. It’s that easy when you break it. At # 19 there is a risk of taking over one of the names that remain on the board. Because of this, Washington should just be aggressive and add Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans.
And yes, the price is worth it.
Washington should risk everything
According to John McClain of the Houston Chronicle, Houston would like two proven defenders in exchange for Watson’s talent among several early selections. Washington has the security of moving on from multiple defenders who would not affect the production of the entire unit.
Houston’s production in the first seven needs to be upgraded in the pass-rushing department. Daron Payne could be a sign to look out for, or Montez Sweat could allow Washington to offer fewer than three picks for the first round.
Kamren Curl was the surprise star from Arkansas as the team’s choice in the seventh round. He has supported Landon Collins well in the strong security role but where will he fit in if Collins returns from injury?
Moving curl may be the best option as Houston needs an additional defender to mate with Justin Reid. After that, three picks in the first round and a pair of midfielders could do this.
Washington would be able to offer Ryan Kerrigan a small deal to keep him in DC for the rest of his career. You could sign two smaller receivers and maybe even an offensive lineman at the right price to build around Watson. And with its cap hit of $ 21 million in 2021, all of these moves should be plausible for at least one season.
Washington has swung at the fences on quarterbacks before. The difference? Watson is proven and worth the entire capital draft. While it doesn’t fix every problem for Ron Rivera, it does answer the biggest question.
The NFC East can now be won by all four teams. Watson is likely to fill this gap for the next five years. Dan Snyder has been persistent in his selection in the past, but this is one that both Martin Mayhew and Rivera would quickly leave behind.
