It’s another Leafs game on Saturday night as the Leafs try to continue their triumphant advance and build on their 7-2 league record, continue their current four-game winning streak and win those two series against the Oilers.
The Leafs and Oilers come into play tonight after a hot first game in which the Leafs took a 2-0 lead before “penalties” broke the lead but a goal from Auston Matthews put the Leafs 4-3 Keep in the lead for the bottom line.
The other big story that goes into today’s game is that the Leafs will debut their reverse retro jerseys, which have not received the best reaction from fans. But it will be interesting to see what they look like on the ice tonight.

Watch Leafs Player: Auston Matthews
Matthews is currently in a four-goal streak, although the absence of a game due to injury technically ends that streak so it’s only a three-goal streak. Regardless, he seems to be back in shape with his scoring chances and has scored two goals in two games against the Oilers. So we’ll see what magic he’s doing tonight.
Watch Oilers Player: Tyson Barrie
Barrie was brought to the Oilers to mitigate the loss of Oskar Klefbom and so far his performance has not been the best. He has only three assists in nine games, two of which are on power play, and so far he has the second worst goals over the substitute in the league on the Evolving Hockey model, behind only Seth Jones. He hasn’t taken advantage of the curse “Former hand playing on the hands” so tonight may be his night.
Leafs starting goalkeeper: Frederik Andersen
Although we haven’t had any confirmation yet, it can be assumed that Andersen will make it to the start tonight with the lack of goalkeeping depth behind him. It will be his third start in a row, currently with a 5-2 record and savings of 0.896 percent in the season and a 2-1 record and savings of 0.915 percent against the Oilers.
Oilers start goalkeeper: Mikko Koskinen
Like Andersen, Koskinen’s start is not confirmed, but considering he has started every game this season and the Oilers have no goalkeeping depth, he will likely start tonight. He has a 3-6 record with a savings of 0.895 percent on the season and 1-2 with a savings of 0.901 percent against the Leafs.
The game will air on Sportsnet with a start time of 7:00 p.m. EST.
