Numerous European clubs made inquiries, but failed to win Portland Timbers and US national team striker Jeremy Ebobisse this winter, sources told MLSsoccer.com.
The Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht and the German second division team Düsseldorf started negotiations but were unsuccessful. The Belgian side Zulte Waregem submitted a loan offer, which was rejected, while Beerschot inquired about Ebobisse on the reporting date.
There are a number of other clubs monitoring Ebobisse from England, Spain and the Netherlands, although none have had serious discussions with Portland or Ebobisse’s camp.
23-year-old Ebobisse was ranked 4th overall in Portland’s 2017 SuperDraft and was an invaluable member of Gio Savarese’s squad. Capable of playing through the middle or way out, the forward has 22 goals and eight assists in his MLS career. In 2020 Ebobisse had eight goals and two assists on the field in 1,062 minutes.
With the US national team, Ebobisse is qualified for the Olympic Games, should the country qualify and the Games take place despite the COVID-19 pandemic. He was a member of the US squad at the 2017 U-20 World Cup and made his senior debut in 2019.
