Doolittle, 34, threw just 7 2/3 innings over 11 appearances for the Nationals in 2020, missed the time with right knee fatigue and right oblique strain, and finished with an ERA of 5.87.
Doolittle struggled with persistent injury problems throughout his career and has made nine Injured List trips since 2014. He does, however, have a lifetime ERA of 3.07 with a whip of 0.97 and 111 saves over nine seasons for the A’s and Nats.
If he’s healthy, Doolittle could consider the closing picture for the Reds, who Archie Bradley didn’t advertise and Raisel Iglesias traded for the Angels earlier this off-season.
