Morales, who will turn 31 in May, has made 16 USMNT internationals since his international debut in 2013. The native German was entitled to represent the United States through his father, a Peru-born man who served in the US military.
The central midfielder has spent his entire professional career in Germany, first with Hertha BSC, then with FC Ingolstadt and Fortuna Düsseldorf. Over time in the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, Morales has played in almost 230 games with 12 goals and 16 assists.
Should Morales join NYCFC, he would join a midfield corps that includes James Sands and Keaton Parks as other options domestically. They also have young Uruguayan Nicolas Acevedo but traded longtime standout Alex Ring for Austin FC earlier this off-season.
