Athletic’s Phil Hay has announced that Spanish second division Castellon Leeds United will sign midfielder Pablo Hernandez before the end of the January transfer window.
When I heard from Spain that Castellon was hoping to lure Pablo Hernandez there this month, it won’t happen. Leeds doesn’t want to lose him. #lufc

However, the 35-year-old is expected to stay on Elland Road beyond tomorrow’s deadline as the club is reluctant to lose him at the moment.

Although Hernandez made 36 league games in the championship last season when Leeds secured promotion, he had a small role in the Premier League that season, starting only two of the seven games he played in that competition.
Still, he weighed with two assists and Castellon is hoping to recruit his services to avoid relegation to the third division.
The Spanish team is currently in 19th place in the table after 13 defeats, four draws and six wins in 23 games. This month they need to make high quality signings to increase their chances of an uptrend.
Hernandez played for Valencia, Cádiz, Getafe and Rayo Vallecano before joining Leeds in the summer of 2016 and Castellon knew his experience would help them survive.
The midfielder has 34 goals and 39 assists in 160 league games for Marcelo Bielsa’s side and he would definitely deliver the goods in La Liga 2.
Hernandez has roughly 18 months on his current Elland Road deal, and while he will most likely remain a squad player in the future, an exit may not be planned until he sees his deal.
A return home will definitely appeal to the Leeds star, however, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the months ahead.
