Unfortunately, the NWHL announced this afternoon that the remainder of the 2021 season will be suspended for safety reasons after new positive COVID cases were confirmed:

The NWHL and the Olympic Regional Development Authority (ORDA) have agreed that the remainder of the NWHL 2021 season in Lake Placid will be over due to new positive COVID-19 tests and the resulting safety concerns for the players, their respective staff and the community suspended.

While it’s sad that the season is paused this way, we’d also like to pay tribute to the amazing achievements of the brand new Toronto Six team, who were the first seed at the time the game was suspended. This season also showed the general commitment of the hockey community to the growth of the game with incredible sponsorships (like this one announced today 🙂

In addition, the semi-finals and the final were to be broadcast live on NBCSN – a first for professional women’s hockey. Hopefully this will carry over as the season continues.

There have been so many inspiring premieres and celebratory moments so far in this short season, and we hope to see The Toronto Six and the rest of the league back on the ice soon.
