Joey Bosa discusses what Urban Meyer needs to do to translate into the NFL.
Ohio State’s former star defensive end gave a glimpse into what Meyer needs to do to be successful with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Bosa believes he needs to get guys to buy into his coaching. Bosa admitted that this was key to the success of himself and the state of Ohio during his three years there. He was building a culture of excellence, and it was up to the players to buy in or not to gamble.
Bosa said: “I think it really depends because what he brings is great and it will be successful when you have a team of players who try hard and believe in the system and the culture.”
Urban Meyer has to get adult men to buy into his system.
Bosa went on to say that Meyer was the main reason he went to Ohio state. When he got the coaching job, the Buckeyes were unbeaten 12-0 in 2012. That was all Bosa needed to see.
These are grown men with families. This is not the college game where coaches have the power to treat players as they choose. He also has to be prepared to lose in the NFL. He also needs to assess how this will affect his health as well. Jacksonville is in the works and they are not the Golden State Warriors Steve Kerr inherited as the new coach or the Brooklyn Nets with Steve Nash.
Meyer will have his work cut out for him. In due course he can put the Jaguars together into a good team, but it takes patience and cooperation between him and the players.
