Greg Vanney appointed his coaching staff prior to his first season at LA Galaxy on Tuesday, and appointed three of his former Toronto FC assistant coaches Dan Calichman, Nick Theslof and Jason Bent to serve. They will be joined by former Galaxy goalkeeper Kevin Hartman, who will be the team’s goalkeeper coach.
The trio of former Toronto coaches worked with Vanney throughout their time there, including the 2017 season when the team first won the treble in the MLS. Both Calichman and Bent are former MLS players, with Calichman actually playing with Vanney for the Galaxy from 1996 to 1998.
“You have to build a culture, but a culture isn’t just built on the past, it’s about what you do every day.”

Calichman also has college level coaching experience and coached the men’s soccer team at Claremont McKenna College before moving to Toronto. Theslof also worked in college game with Ohio Wesleyan University and worked as a scout for the German national team and Bayern Munich before joining MLS, initially as an assistant at Chivas USA. Bent worked at the Toronto Academy before working with Vanney.
Hartman is the latest addition to the first-team coaching staff, but like him he’s a former Galaxy player. He was previously the director of the Galaxy Academy.
