Longtime MLS defender Alvas Powell officially ended his time in the MLS and officially joined the Sudanese club Al Hilal Educational Club on Tuesday. He was last at Inter Miami for the club’s first MLS season.
Powell will stay with the Sudanese Premier League club until the end of the 2020-21 season, with the option to extend the contract for another year. The team finished second last season and is 27-time league champions. The club is based in the city of Omdurman.
Powell finished a seven-year tenure in the US and joined Portland Timbers in 2013. In 2014, he spent a year with Sacramento Republic before returning to Portland, where he won the 2015 MLS Cup. He was then traded before FC Cincinnati, the club’s inaugural season in 2019 and joining Miami in 2020.
Miami turned down Powell’s option at the end of the 2020 season after playing five games for the team.
