Add one more impressive point to Fernando Tatis Jr.’s growing superstar resume.
The Padres’ dazzling shortstop was revealed as the cover athlete for Sony’s MLB The Show 21 video game on Monday, making history in the process. At just 22 years old, Tatis became the youngest player to be selected for the cover of The Show when the game debuted in 2006. It’s also a landmark for Padres fans as Tatis becomes the first player to grace the game’s cover in a San Diego uniform.
Tatis has had a sensational 2020 season, crushing 17 homers in 59 games, winning his first Silver Slugger Award, finishing fourth in the National League MVP vote, and receiving the All-MLB First Team award. The native Dominican was instrumental in leading the Padres back into the postseason for the first time in 14 years. Then he was the third youngest player to complete multiple home runs in a postseason game. Tatis ’39 career home runs are most in his first 150 career games dating from 1900.
Tatis follows Cubs fan favorite Javier Báez, the cover athlete of MLB The Show 20, along with a “who’s who” list of contemporary stars who have appeared on the game’s cover in recent years, including Miguel Cabrera, Josh Donaldson, Adrián González and Ken Griffey Jr., Bryce Harper, Ryan Howard, Aaron Richter, Joe Mauer, Andrew McCutchen, David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia, Yasiel Puig and David Wright.
MLB The Show 21 will be released on April 20th and is the first edition for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. For more information, please visit The Show’s social media channels at Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
