Las Vegas Raiders fans let it be known that they hate Colin Cowherd’s bogus trading for Deshaun Watson.
NFL fans are getting ready for the wildest off-season in recent years. The tone was set last weekend after the Detroit Lions traded quarterback Matthew Stafford for Jared Goff and several draft picks for the Los Angeles Rams. Now all eyes are on the Houston Texans and Deshaun Watson, who reportedly have requested a compromise from the team.
It’s safe to say that at least half of the league is interested in getting the superstar quarterback despite the Texans playing hardball by saying they don’t feel like trading with him. Las Vegas Raiders fans, like other bases, were intrigued by the potential trade for Watson. But a sports media character gave her the idea.
During his latest episode of “The Herd,” FOX Sports’ Colin Cowherd gave the audience his fake deal between the Texans and Raiders. Las Vegas would acquire Watson in exchange for four first-round picks, quarterback Derek Carr and Darren Waller. Raiders fans thanked them, but no, thanks to the speaking chief’s trade suggestion.
Raiders fans don’t feel like parting with Waller
Raiders fans have no problem with the team splitting up with Carr if it means winning Watson. But when it comes to moving on from Waller and four first-round draft picks, that’s too much in the eyes of the die-hard fan base.
Waller found his booth with the Raiders organization after they dropped him off from the Baltimore Ravens training team in 2018. In his first full season with the Raiders in 2019, Waller caught 90 passes for 1,145 yards and three touchdowns without missing a single game. Last season, Waller topped his breakout campaign with 107 receptions for 1,196 yards and nine touchdowns in 16 games. Waller is an elitist ending, and since they’re hard to come by, it’s hard to imagine the Raiders parting with him.
Then there are the first class. The Raiders are a team with many needs, especially when it comes to defense. That year, Las Vegas was ranked 25th in overall defense (389.1 yards per game), 26th in pass defense (263.3 yards / game) and 24th in rapid defense (125.8 yards / Game). Her biggest weakness, however, is her pass rush, which recorded a total of 21 sacks, seven of which belonged to the edge rusher Maxx Crosby. The Raiders will have to use these draft picks to tackle their less-than-stellar defense or possibly pick their future quarterback.
Much like other fans, they love the prospect of their team putting Watson in the spotlight, but are wary of the price. While this is only Cowherd suggesting, fans let it be known that they don’t want any part of this deal.
