The city of Chicago showed up again and again at the Chicago Sky WNBA championship run in 2021. Skytown staged another to celebrate Sky’s first-ever WNBA championship as fans flocked to the Pritzker Pavilion to commemorate the city’s first championship celebration since the Chicago Cub won the 2016 World Series.
“We deserve this moment and we worked so hard for it,” Diamond DeShields told NBC Chicago. “In any case, we just enjoyed ourselves. Man it was great. Together with the whole city, like love, how the city shows itself to us – it’s just amazing. Something that I will never forget and that I don’t want to do with any other group, that’s it. That was incredible.”
The 2021 WNBA Champions celebrations began at Wintrust Arena, where the team played Game 3 and Game 4, as party buses took the team down Michigan Ave before making their final stop at Millennium Park.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot, Governor JB Pritzker, Chance the Rapper and even the locker room door, which Diana Taurasi reportedly broke after Game 4, attended the celebration.
