Chicago Bulls forward Patrick Williams is expected to miss the remainder of the 2021-22 NBA regular season due to a left wrist injury in his team’s 104-103 loss to the New York Knicks Thursday night.
Williams, 20, was the fourth overall pick in the 2020 draft.
In 81 games with the Bulls, Williams averaged 9.1 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.3 assists on 49/39/74 shooting splits.
The Bulls will be at a major disadvantage without Williams – and will likely have to put three guards in the starting XI to make up for his absence.
We’re a bit smaller in that position and played smaller there… but when you lose a guy like that, it can guard a lot of different positions and has the strength and size to deal with follow-up players, like Patrick does, it definitely does hurt, ”Bulls head coach Billy Donovan told ESPN on Friday.
The Bulls will attempt to get back on track in a matchup at 8 p.m. EST on Saturday against the San Antonio Spurs.
