TRANSFER TRACKER STATUS: signing
Austin FC have signed veteran American striker Aaron Schoenfeld as a free agent ahead of his 2021 expansion season, the club announced on Thursday.
30-year-old Schönfeld spent last year at Minnesota United FC after returning from Maccabi Tel Aviv, where he won a title in the Israeli Premier League in 2018/19. In five seasons in the MLS, Schönfeld has six goals and three assists in 65 games (17 starts).
“Aaron is a versatile player who has gained valuable MLS and international experience throughout his career,” said Sporting Director Claudio Reyna in a club release. “We look forward to incorporating him into our style of play and adding depth to our growing squad.”
Schönfeld joined the MLS in 2012 with Columbus Crew SC after being selected in round 2 of this year’s Supplementary Draft by CF Montréal. He played collegially in the state of East Tennessee. His five-year stay in Israel also included positions in Maccabi Netanya and Hapoel Tel Aviv.
Schönfeld is a 6-foot-4 forward and offers Austin FC another option alongside Danny Hoesen, who was selected in the Expansion Draft after four seasons at the San Jose Earthquakes.
